The Wedding Banquet (2025) is a vibrant American romantic comedy film. Directed by Andrew Ahn, it is a remake of the 1993 film of the same name.
The story centers on Angela Chen and her partner Lee, who reside in Lee’s family home in Seattle. Lee desperately wants to become a mother but faces challenges with IVF.
Their close friends, Chris and his longtime boyfriend Min, also live nearby. Min, a Korean student artist, faces visa expiration and pressure from his wealthy grandmother, Ja-Young, to return to Korea for the family business.
To address their intertwined dilemmas, Min and Lee devise a bold, deceptive plan. Min proposes a sham marriage to Angela.
This arrangement would allow Min to remain in the U.S. and, in exchange, he would fund Lee’s costly fertility treatments. Angela, determined to help Lee, reluctantly agrees to the pretense.
