
Amina (2021) – Movie Synopsis
Set in 16th-century Zazzau, now Zaria, Nigeria, Amina (2021) tells the story of a fearless warrior princess destined to lead her kingdom.
From a young age, Amina shows a fierce desire to fight like a man and protect her people. She challenges the norms of her chauvinistic society and trains under a one-eyed former warrior.
Her father, the Emir of Zazzau, faces threats from within his court. The Madaki, his ambitious second-in-command, schemes to seize power.
He allies with the regent of the neighboring Igala kingdom. Their plots bring tragedy: Amina’s sister is killed, and Amina escapes with Danjuma, the rightful heir to Igala’s throne and her love.
Amina’s journey is one of loss, love, and courage. Guided by a mysterious priestess, she grows into a strong leader. She must use her military skills and tactics to defend her family’s kingdom from enemies and betrayal.
The film explores themes of justice, power, and destiny. Amina fights to bring fairness to her people and reclaim her throne. Despite heartbreak and danger, she rises to become the first female ruler of Zazzau.
